Tasmanian Independent Retailers is proud to be involved in a wide range of Community Programs.

IGA Tasmania Web Site Blog – IGA & Cripps / Make-A-Wish® Australia.  IGA Supermarkets Tasmania (IGA), in conjunction with our program partner Cripps have recently announced a three year, $60,000 sponsorship deal with Make-A-Wish® Australia.

The IGA / Cripps sponsorship arrangement commenced in April 2010 and will over the next three years see a minimum of $60,000 ($20,000/ year for 3 years) donated to the Tasmanian Division of Make-A-Wish Australia to help support them with the continued granting of wishes that brings so much magic, joy and happiness to children and young people with a life-threatening medical condition.

The IGA & Cripps sponsorship is supported by a $0.03 donation that is accrued on all sales of Black & Gold Bread & Rolls sold at your local IGA supermarket in Tasmania. IGA’s & Cripps commitment may  not stop at the $60,000 mark with any additional funds raised via the $0.03 / unit donation collected on all sales of Black & Gold Bread & Rolls also being donated to the Tasmanian Division of Make-A-Wish Australia – in summary the more we sell the more we can donate.

Both IGA and Cripps are extremely proud of the support we provide to so many community based organisations in Tasmania and we are of course thrilled to now see this support extended to Make-A-Wish and its large family of supporters and recipients of Wishes.

Additional information about Make-A-Wish can be found on their web site, www.makeawish.org.au

IGA together with The Examiner Newspaper is delighted to announce that our ongoing commitment to junior sport will continue in 2010 through our successful Junior Sports Awards, generously supported by Nestle.

This year’s Awards recognise excellence in sporting achievement of our future stars.  Above all, the Awards encourage our young people to participate and get active in their chosen sports.  There are five categories: Male Individual; Female Individual; Male Teams; Female Teams and Service to Sport. The Awards are open to all participants of sport under the age of 18.

The Service to Sport Award is open to coaches, volunteers, officials, umpires and dedicated parents involved in junior sport.  Encouragement Awards may also be awarded at the Judges’ discretion.

Monthly nominations for individuals and teams are now open.  The monthly winner of each category will be featured in an editorial story in The Examiner’s weekly junior sports pages on Tuesdays.  All of the monthly winners will become finalists and the overall winner will be announced at the Awards Presentation Dinner in November.

To make these exciting Awards a success we seek your support.  Remember; the Awards are about celebrating participation, achievement and success.  They are not about winning or being the best.  Please consider making a nomination today. See The Examiner each Tuesday for a Nomination Form or visit www.examiner.com.au.

Each year IGA and The Advocate Newspaper recognise the achievements of the North West and West Coast of Tasmania's best sportsmen and women with The Advocate IGA Sports Awards. Over a period of 52 weeks, the newspaper publishes a weekly column acknowledging their feats with one of them named Sports Star of the Year at an official function in Ulverstone in July. The weekly finalists are all worthy winners and amaze us over the 12 months with their exploits, locally, regionally, interstate and overseas. The Awards Dinner traditionally features a current or former Coastal sporting star as guest speaker and once again this year promises to be a sporting 'night of nights'.

Little Athletics (LA) commenced in Tasmania in 1973 and since then has offered a sporting activity for over 2700 children each year. LA prides itself in offering a modified sport for children of all abilities and is one of the few sports that encourage parent participation in its activities. LA has 19 centres located in the major metropolitan and regional areas of Tasmania. The philosophy of LA is best captured by its motto "fun, family, fitness". IGA Supermarkets Tasmania (IGA) commenced its sponsorship of LA in October 2008 under a two year agreement. IGA's sponsorship of LA will assist with the further development and promotion of Little Athletics in Tasmania to the benefit of the young children that choose to participate in this great sport.
